Yoga after birth
The transition to motherhood is an intense and profoundly life-changing event that shakes you to the core.
Yoga after birth is a great way to nurture and reconnect with yourself physically, mentally and spiritually through breath expansion techniques (pranayama), meditation practices and gentle exercises (asanas) specially designed to accompany the healing process, to balance emotions and enjoy the first year of your baby’s life. Each class is also an opportunity to connect with other mothers and find support.
Why practice yoga after birth?
The postpartum period is challenging for most women. A consistent postnatal yoga practice will help you to heal and close the body after birth, regain strength, re-align the spine, tone pelvic floor, abdominal and lower back muscles, relieve tension, cultivate serenity and inner balance, and replenish the necessary energy to attend to your and your baby’s needs.
When can I start practicing?
You can start at 6-8 weeks postpartum if you had a vaginal birth, or at 8-10 weeks if you had a caesarean birth. As a precaution, I suggest you get your gynaecologist’s approval before signing up for classes and also ask yourself if you feel it is the right time to start physical activity.
What can I expect from a class?
The classes focus on gentle exercises to restore and strengthen the body, especially the abdominal and pelvic muscles affected during pregnancy and childbirth.
They incorporate relaxation techniques, and provide the space for new mothers to share their experiences, fostering a sense of connection among participants facing similar challenges.
