Affirmations for busy mamas
We both know how quickly a peaceful morning can turn into pure chaos. Between the snack requests, endless to-do lists, and the mental load of motherhood, staying grounded can feel nearly impossible.
But here’s the thing: sometimes the simplest tools are the most effective. One of my favourite ways to shift out of overwhelm and into clarity – even on the most hectic of days – is through affirmations. I often include them at the beginning of my classes to set the tone of the practice.
They take just a few seconds… but the shift they bring can last all day.
What are affirmations (and why should busy moms care)?
Affirmations are short, empowering statements that help rewire the way we think. They are like little mindset resets, gently nudging our inner dialogue toward compassion, presence, and resilience.
Technically speaking, affirmations are positive phrases that affirm something as true, even if we’re still working on believing it. Over time, repeating them can help quiet the inner critic and create new thought patterns rooted in possibility and self-love.
Think of affirmations as mental yoga. Just like we stretch and strengthen the body through mindful movement, we can stretch and strengthen our minds through intentional words.
And before you discard this tool or assume it is useless, keep in mind that by repeating them you have nothing to lose!

How do affirmations work?
Here’s the magic behind them: our brains love repetition. The more we repeat something, the more our subconscious absorbs it. And the more we believe something, the more likely we are to act in ways that support that belief.
That’s why a thought like “I’ll never get it right” can quietly sabotage your day… but something like “I am learning and growing every day” can fuel patience, joy, and grace, even in the messy moments.
Science backs this up: studies show affirmations can improve emotional regulation, reduce stress, boost confidence, and help us stay focused under pressure. And let’s be honest, motherhood is basically a high-stakes marathon of pressure and love.
How to use affirmations (without adding another task to your plate)
You don’t need a 30-minute morning routine or a perfect moment of silence. Here are a few easy ways to start using affirmations daily:
- Say them while brushing your teeth.
- Stick them on your fridge or mirror.
- Repeat one during a stressful moment.
- Write them in your journal or planner.
- Whisper one to yourself before sleep.
They’re most effective when used regularly—think of them as small seeds that grow with time and intention.
And if you’re still not sure if they’re “your thing,” I’ll leave you with this from Louise Hay:
You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.
5 grounding affirmations for busy mamas
Here are a few of my go-tos, especially when life feels messy or I need a reminder that I’ve got this.
- I am exactly where I need to be.
A gentle reminder that you’re not behind, you’re becoming.
- I do enough. I have enough. I am enough.
(From The Fourth Trimester by Kimberly Ann Johnson. And honestly? A daily must.)
- I create a safe and calm space for myself wherever I go.
Because peace isn’t always external, it can start within you.
- I focus on what’s within my control.
When everything feels out of hand, this one brings me back to centre.
- I welcome this moment as an opportunity to grow.
Even the hard ones. Especially the hard ones.
Want to make your own? Use present tense, first person, and positive phrasing. So instead of: “I won’t feel overwhelmed,” try: “I feel calm and capable as I navigate my day.”
